The Neuse River, formed by the junction of the Flat, Little, and Eno rivers in northeast-central North Carolina, is named in 1584 for the Neusiok, an unclassified tribe, perhaps of Iroquoian stock, found occupying the country on the south side of the lower Neuse river, and at war with the more southerly coast tribes.
