Relics of material culture in the region of present Arizona indicate a human presence from at least 23,000 BCE.
These people evidently lived in caves and hunted animals, many species of which no longer exist today.
A rimmed, bowl-shaped pit produced by a large meteorite is discovered in the rolling hills of the Canyon Diablo Region, nineteen miles (thirty kilometers) west of Winslow, Arizona, in 1891.
