Anthemius of Tralles
Greek architect and professor of geometry
Anthemius of Tralles (c. 474 – before 558) is a Greek professor of Geometry in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul in Turkey) and architect, who collaborates with Isidore of Miletus to build the church of Hagia Sophia by the order of Justinian I. Anthemius comes from an educated family, one of five sons of Stephanus of Tralles, a physician.
Of his brothers, Dioscorus follows his father's profession in Tralles; Alexander becomes at Rome one of the most celebrated medical men of his time; Olympius is deeply versed in Roman jurisprudence; and Metrodorus is a distinguished grammarian in Constantinople.
