Emperor Wu of Chen

Emperor Wu of Chen (503–559), personal name Chen Baxian, courtesy name Xingguo, nickname Fasheng, is the first emperor of the Chinese Chen Dynasty.
He first distinguishes himself as a Liang Dynasty general during the campaign against the rebel general Hou Jing, and he is progressively promoted.
In 555, he seizes power after a coup against his superior, the general Wang Sengbian, and in 557 he forces Emperor Jing to yield the throne to him, establishing the Chen Dynasty.
He dies in 559, and as his only surviving son Chen Chang is held by Northern Zhou as a hostage, he is succeeded by his nephew Chen Qian (Emperor Wen).

Ly Bi, declared emperor in February 544, establishes the empire Van Xuân ("10,000 Springtimes") in Long Bien (modern-day Hanoi), surrounding himself with effective leadership in military and administrative scholars.
His armies repel attacks from the kingdom of Champa.
In October, the Liang Dynasty retaliates against Van Xuân and sends an imperial army (one hundred and twenty thousand men) under Chen Baxian to reoccupy the region.
Chen has marched his army into Vạn Xuân territory by spring of 545 and laid siege and devastation to many cities.
His initial invasion had been stalled by Ly imperial forces for months.
However, in the winter of 545, Chen lays a surprise attack on the capital during the monsoon season.
Ly Nam De's forces are caught off guard and the imperial administration is forced to abandon Long Biên and flee westward into the region of present-day Laos, where communities along the Mekong River have begun to form into townships called muang.
Jing, age twelve, succeeds his father Yuan and is declared emperor by general Chen Baxian.
The Liang Dynasty ends in 557 as Chen Baxian, a distinguished general, becomes, as Emperor Wu, the first emperor of Southern China’s Chen Dynasty.
Chen Qian, age thirty-seven, succeeds his uncle Emperor Wu of Chen.
During his reign, he will consolidate the state against the rebellious warlords.
