Lincoln Steffens

Lincoln Austin Steffens (April 6, 1866 – August 9, 1936) wis an American investigative journalist and one of the leading muckrakers of the Progressive Era in the early twentieth century.
He launches a series of articles in McClure's, called "Tweed Days in St. Louis", that will later be published together in a book titled The Shame of the Cities.
He is remembered for investigating corruption in municipal government in American cities and for his leftist values.

The St. Louis streetcar strike sputters to a close in September with no advantage to the exhausted workers.
However, a young lawyer named Joseph W. Folk represents the striking workers in the settlement, and will soon work as the city prosecutor pursuing the city's corrupt Democratic boss Edward Butler, and by 1904 will be Governor of Missouri.
