Philo of Byzantium (ca.

280 BCE – ca.

220 BCE), also known as Philo Mechanicus, was a Greek engineer and writer on mechanics, who lives during the latter half of the 3rd century BCE.

He is probably younger than Ctesibius, though some place him a century earlier.
