January 1160 CE
A ram is used to create a breach in Crema’s walls after the cat has eroded them; the siege tower is brought closer further to the walls starting from January 6.
The final assault is launched on January 21 using a mobile bridge measuring some twenty-four by three and a half meters, while a smaller one is launched from the siege tower.
The defenders and the civilians, some of whom have died of hunger and disease, surrender on January 25 after the imperial troops take control of the walls.
Some twenty thousand survivors are allowed to leave before Crema is burnt to the ground.
An edict issued by Frederick in 1162 at Lodi will officially forbid its reconstruction.
