Albuquerque is released after three months' confinement, on the arrival at Cannanore of the Marshal of Portugal with a large fleet.
He is the most important Portuguese noble ever to visit India and he brings an armada of fifteen ships and three thousand men sent by the King to defend the rights of Albuquerque and take Calicut.
On November 4, 1509, Albuquerque becomes the second Governor of the State of India, a position he will hold until his death.
