Giuliano da Maiano, working at San Gimignano,…
1468 CE
Giuliano da Maiano, working at San Gimignano, between the cities of Florence and Siena, is credited with enlarging the Romanesque church of Santa Maria and building the chapel of Santa Fina, in collaboration with his younger brother Benedetto, a leading Florentine sculptor who creates the chapel’s graceful altar, in 1468.
The two brothers, ten years apart in age, often work in collaboration, as in their earliest (surviving) work, the shrine of San Savino in Faenza Cathedral.
