August 1900 CE
Under British command, the forces of the Eight-Nation Alliance march to Beijing from Tianjin to relieve the Legation Quarter siege, invading and occupying the city on August 14, 1900.
They defeat the Qing Imperial Army's Wuwei Corps in several engagements and quickly bring an end to the siege and also the Boxer Rebellion.
Empress Dowager Cixi, the Emperor, and high government officials flee the Imperial Palace for Xi'an and send Li Hongzhang for peace talks with the Alliance.
