Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, is recalled as Prime Minister of Piedmont-Sardinia.

Britain is opposed to the restoration of conservative governments in Modena and Tuscany, and Napoleon III, with his position at home strengthened by the potential acquisition of Savoy and Nice, has reconsidered his position.

As a result, Cavour's policy prevails, and he is returned to office on January 21, 1860.
