The daily life of the Central Asians…
1876 CE to 1887 CE
The daily life of the Central Asians does not change greatly during the first few decades of Russian rule.
The Russians substantially increase cotton production, but otherwise they interfere little with the indigenous people.
Some Russian settlements are built next to the established cities of Tashkent and Samarkand, but the Russians do not mix with the indigenous populations.
The era of Russian rule does produce important social and economic changes for some Uzbeks as a new middle class develops and some peasants are affected by the increased emphasis on cotton cultivation.
