April 1521 CE
Cebu is a thriving port on the east coast of Cebu island, protected by outlying Mactan Island.
Rajah Humabon of Cebu is friendly towards Magellan and the Spaniards; both he and his queen Hara Amihan are baptized into the Catholic faith, taking the Christian names Carlos, in honor of King Charles of Spain, and Juana, in honor of King Charles' mother.
To commemorate this event, they are given the image of the Holy Child (later known as Santo Niño de Cebu) which along with a cross (Magellan's Cross) symbolizes the Christianization of the Philippines.
As a result of Magellan's influence with Rajah Humabon, an order is issued to the nearby chiefs that each of them are to provide food supplies for the ships, and convert to Christianity.
