Charles meets the League in Lombardy on…
July 1495 CE
Charles meets the League in Lombardy on July 6, 1495, at the indecisive Battle of Fornovo, for which both sides claim victory.
Despite their numerical superiority in the battle, the League army has taken twice the casualties suffered by the French army.
Charles successfully retreats with most of his army across the territories of his enemies on his way to France and the army of the League cannot stop him, but he has to abandon nearly all of the booty from his whole campaign in Italy.
