September 1657 CE
Frederick William, taking advantage of the difficult position of Poland against Sweden during the Northern Wars, changes sides, obtaining full sovereignty for Brandenburg over Ducal Prussia from King John Casimir Vasa of Poland in the Treaty of Wehlau on September 19, 1657.
The rights of the Polish Crown mean that the duchy will legally revert back to Poland should the Hohenzollern dynastic line become extinct; this clause, which is to be renewed at each country's change of ruler, will have expired by 1700.
