...Libya with eight civilian hostages.
These people will henceforth be used as "bargaining chips" in Libyan dealings with France, and Abu Nidal dealing with Belgium, until they are all released in 1990.
Abu Nidal will take responsibility for this act in November 1987 ( incident).
The Belgian part of the family will be held for almost five years of captivity in Libya, but will be freed after the release of Said Al Nasr (who had been convicted in the early 1980s for throwing a hand grenade into a group of Jewish children in Antwerp in the 1980 Antwerp summer camp attack) for the family, in Cairo, Egypt, on January 12, 1991.
The French part of the family will be released somewhat earlier, when the French government negotiates their freedom with the Libyan government.
