Years: 1554 - 1554
June
Strozzi conquers Montecatini on June 21, but does not feel confident enough to join in a pitched battle against Medeghino, waiting instead for further French reinforcements which are to arrive at Viareggio.
He has, in total, ninety-five hundred infantry and perhaps twelve hundred cavalry, while Medici has two thousand Spanish, three thousand German, and six thousand Italian infantry, as well as six hundred cavalry, not to mention further troops from Spain and Corsica which had recently landed at Bocca d'Arno.
His brother, Leone Strozzi, had been killed by an arquebus ball in the course of the struggle for Grosseto.
