Captain Edward Edwards, in command of HMS…
March 1791 CE
On March 23 of the following year, Pandora arrives at Tahiti and within a few days—with the help of former Bounty midshipman Thomas Hayward, a Bligh loyalist recently returned to England from the South Pacific—captures or receives the surrender of the fourteen surviving Bounty men who had stayed on that island.
Edwards makes no distinction between mutineers and those who claim they had been detained on Bounty unwillingly; all are incarcerated in a specially constructed prison erected on Pandora's quarterdeck, grimly dubbed "Pandora's Box".
