The Al Said hold over the region…
1828 CE to 1971 CE
The Al Said hold over the region of Muscat and Oman had remained problematic, however, and in 1964 a rebellion arose, this time in Dhofar.
The Dhofar rebellion, which will not be brought under control until late 1975, obliges the sultan to seek foreign military assistance; therefore, British forces, particularly the air force, resume activity in the country.
The rebels point to British involvement as an indication of the sultan's illegitimacy and bring their case to the United Nations (UN), which eventually censures Britain for its continuing involvement in Oman.
