1864 CE to 1875 CE

An important step in the Russian conquest is the capture of Tashkent from the Quqon Khanate, part of which is annexed in 1866.

The following year, Tashkent becomes the capital of the new Guberniya (Governorate General) of Turkestan, which includes the districts of Khujand and Uroteppa (later part of Tajikistan).

After a domestic uprising and Russian military occupation, Russia will annex the remainder of the
Quqon Khanate in 1876.
