The fleet of Roger Guiscard anchors offshore…
May 1086 CE
The fleet of Roger Guiscard anchors offshore of the cavalry forces of his son, Jordan of Hauteville, fifteen miles north of Syracuse, on May 22, 1085.
On May 25, the navies of the count and the emir engage in the harbor and, the emir himself dying in battle, the forces of Roger land ashore to find Jordan already besieging the city.
The siege lasts throughout the summer, but the city eventually capitulates, leaving only Noto still under Saracen dominion.
Jordan is given the city as count.
New quarters are built, and the cathedral is restored, as well as other churches.
