The joint Franco-Ottoman fleet of one hundred…
August 1543 CE
The joint Franco-Ottoman fleet of one hundred and sixty galleys sails out of Marseille on the 5th of August, anchoring the following day off the Imperial city of Nice and landing troops at Villefranche, six kilometers to the east, which it takes and destroys.
A siege of the city follows.
Though the inhabitants repulse the assault that succeeds the terrible bombardment, they are ultimately compelled to surrender.
