The nuncio Jacobo Rondón de Seseña arrives…
1479 CE
The nuncio Jacobo Rondón de Seseña arrives at Castile with notice that Pope Sixtus IV has reversed himself and has annulled the dispensation previously awarded to Afonso V for his marriage to his niece Joanna.
This gravely debilitates the legitimacy of the Joannist side and the pretension of the King of Portugal to the throne of Castile.
Isabella and Ferdinand try in February 1479 to organize a new fleet of about twenty caravels to expel the Portuguese from Elmina.
However, they are unable to gather the necessary ships, and afterwards no expeditions of importance will be launched up until the peace agreement with Portugal.
