The Crimean campaign opens in September 1854.

Three hundred and sixty ships sail in seven columns, each steamer towing two sailing ships.

Anchoring on September 13 in the bay of Eupatoria, the town surrenders and five hundred marines land to occupy it.

This town and bay will provide a fall back position in case of disaster.
