The Kazakhs begin to resist Russian control almost as soon as it becomes complete.

The first mass uprising is led by a Kazakh chieftain by the name of Kenisary Kasimov of the Middle Horde, whose followers fight the Russians between 1836 and 1847.

Kasimov is today considered a Kazakh national hero.
