The Russians have harshly ravaged Eastern Livonia…
September 1502 CE
The Russians have harshly ravaged Eastern Livonia during the winter of 1501–1502, and many Livonian dignitaries want to make peace with Muscovy, but Plettenberg decides to continue war and tries to conquer Pskov one more time.
Due to Moscow's strong support for Pskov, however, he is forced to retreat southwest from the city.
On September 13, 1502, he wins the Battle of Smolin (at Lake Smolin close to the village of Palkino in Pskov Oblast) with his five thousand men against about twelve thousand Russian troops.
