March 1506 CE
The Zamorin of Calicut prepares a large fleet, consisting of about two hundred ships manned by Hindu, Arab and Turkish crews and equipped with cannons manufactured with the help of two Milanese Italians.
Ottoman Empire soldiers are also participating on the Indian side.
In March 1506 Almeida’s son Lourenço intercepts the Zamorin's fleet in a sea battle at the entrance to the harbor of Cannanore, and inflicts heavy losses.
Hereupon Lourenço de Almeida explores the coastal waters southwards to Colombo, modern Sri Lanka.
