Veteran United States diplomat Dean Acheson meets with Greek and Turkish representatives in Geneva in July.
From this meeting emerges what becomes known as the Acheson Plan, according to which Greek Cypriots will have enosis and Greece is to award the Aegean island of Kastelorrizon to Turkey and compensate Turkish Cypriots wishing to emigrate.
Secure Turkish enclaves and a Turkish sovereign military base area are to be provided on Cyprus.
