Zengi had laid siege to the castle…
August 1137 CE
Zengi had laid siege to the castle of Ba'rin in the territory of Tripoli In July 1137.
Raymond had called for help from King Fulk of Jerusalem, but Zengi had defeated them in a pitched battle outside the castle, and Raymond had been taken prisoner.
Zengi continues the siege, but begins negotiations with the besieged when he hears that further relief is on its way from Raymond of Antioch, Joscelin II of Edessa, and Emperor John II Komnenos, who is in Antioch at the time.
Those besieged in Barin do not know of these movements but readily agree to hand over the castle to Zengi in exchange for the release of Raymond and an end to the siege in late August.
