Liu Yan (died 23), courtesy name Bosheng, is a general of one of the major uprisings against the Xin Dynasty and its emperor, Wang Mang.
Although he has military successes, he dies early as a victim of political intrigue.
His brother Liu Xiu, however, eventually founds the Eastern Han Dynasty (as Emperor Guangwu).
