October 1860 CE
Following the decisive defeat of the Chinese, Prince Gong is compelled to sign two treaties on behalf of the Qing government with Lord Elgin and Baron Gros, who represent Britain and France respectively.
Although Russia has not been a belligerent, Prince Gong also signs a treaty with Nikolay Ignatyev.
This first Convention of Peking formally ends the Second Opium War.
The agreement, comprising three distinct treaties concluded between the Qing dynasty of China and the United Kingdom, French Empire, and Russian Empire, gives Russia control over a non-freezing area on the Pacific coast, where Russia will soon found the city of Vladivostok.
