August 1148 CE
Conrad stops at Constantinople to consolidate his alliance with Manuel, who had earlier married his sister-in-law.
Conrad agrees to join the Emperor against Roger of Sicily, but Louis's resentment against Manuel, whom he blames for the failure of the Second Crusade, is so great that he accepts Roger's offer of ships to take him home and agrees to a plan for a new Crusade against Constantinople.
Fortunately, for everyone but Roger, the plan is soon abandoned.
