Louis XII lays siege to the city…
April 1500 CE
Louis XII lays siege to the city of Novara, where Ludovico is based.
The armies of both sides include Swiss mercenaries.
The Swiss do not want to fight each other and choose to leave Novara.
Ludovico is handed over to the French in April 1500, and he is soon imprisoned in the French castle of Loches, where he will die on May 17, 1508.
Ludovico's struggle with Louis is mentioned briefly in Chapter Three of Machiavelli's The Prince.
The Swiss will later execute a soldier from Uri, called Hans Turmann, who had, they claimed, betrayed his employer for money.
