…Michael Doukeianos falls back to the port…
1041 CE
…Michael Doukeianos falls back to the port of Bari, requesting new reinforcements from Sicily.
Instead, Doukeianos is transferred to Sicily, which the Normans had just prior abandoned during the expedition of George Maniakes, and replaced by Exaugustus Boioannes, who does not have the levies and reinforcements that Doukeianos had had at his command.
He arrives only with a Varangian contingent.
