Bryennios apparently retires to his base at Adrianople.
Despite his blindness, he will lead the defense of the city against a Cuman attack in 1094/1095, as well as against a rebellion in 1094 led by a pretender who claims to be Constantine Diogenes, the son of Romanos IV Diogenes, who had died in 1073.
