King of Jaffna
1500 CE to 1565 CE
Cankili I (died 1565), also known as Segarasasekaram, is the most remembered Jaffna kingdom king in the Sri Lankan Tamil history.
He is very active in resisting Portuguese colonial inroads into Sri Lanka.
He also inherits his throne via palace intrigues in which number of heir apparents die under mysterious circumstances.
In the end, he is removed from power by a local uprising that leads to his son Puviraja Pandaram taking nominal power from him.
